The Mid-Maryland USBC is honored to induct Wayne Terrebonne into the inaugural 2014-2015 bowling season Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. For all he has done to grow and enhance the sport of bowling.
Wayne has done a lot to further the sport of bowling locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. Wayne started bowling in 1990 and had an unusual bowling approach due to injuries he sustained while serving in the US Army. Due to his injuries, he taught himself how to bowl with a one-step approach. In 1996 Wayne decided to become certified as a USA Junior Olympic Bowling Coach level 1 to learn how to teach himself how to do a modified 4 step approach. Upon completing his certification, Wayne decided to use his knowledge to help others with their bowling. Realizing how much he enjoyed teaching others everything from the basics to how to improve their game, he decided to further his coaching. Wayne completed USA Junior Olympic Bowling Coach level 2, USA Bowling Coaching Bronze and Silver levels. Through his years as a certified bowling coach, he has coached many levels of bowlers with different abilities. This includes ladies, men, seniors and youth ranging from one night a week league bowlers, to Junior Team USA Bowlers and PBA Bowlers. While Wayne enjoys all aspects of coaching, the youth have always been and continue to be his passion.
Wayne had a wonderful opportunity that many people can only dream of. He was able to gain 6 years of international coaching experience through the People to People Sports Ambassador program. After intense interviews, he was selected to coach in Australia, Austria, Holland, and New Zealand. He was also honored in a 2007 DVD for an interview for the Youth Friendship Games in Holland as a USA National Coach. In addition, to being a coach for People to People, he was the local sports administrator for the state of Maryland.
Due to his decline in physical health, Wayne stopped bowling competitively in 2013, yet he continued to coach. In May 2015 Wayne realized his love for the sport of bowling was something he missed more than he realized and has returned to bowling using a one-step approach.
In addition to Wayne’s bowling coaching, he is the current Mid-Maryland USBC President. He was a director with the Central Maryland USBC. Wayne was on the merger committee that merged FWBA USBC and Central Maryland USBC. The merger was completed prior to the 2014-2015 bowling season. For many years Wayne also assisted in the running of many FWBA and Central Maryland local bowling tournaments, in addition to Maryland State USBC tournaments that were held locally.
Again, it is our privilege to induct Wayne Terrebonne into the Mid-Maryland USBC Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service.
